Requirements For Females Used In Bovine Embryo Transfer Protocols
Post Date: March 28, 2023
For this post, we would like to discuss general requirements for any females being used in embryo transfer protocols. All females should undergo a general clinical exam to identify any:
- Lameness
- Mastitis
- Pink Eye
- Ring Worm
- External Parasites
- Laceration/Abscesses
If any of these are identified, one should consider removing the female from the embryo transfer program. These issues are stressors that can negatively impact reproductive performance.
All females should also undergo a reproductive tract exam to ensure there are no abnormalities.
- Confirm open pregnancy status
- Palpate mature healthy uterus
- Normal cervix (no masses)
- Ring Worm
- No abnormal discharge
- Identify two normally sized ovaries
